This is absolutely beautiful - the setting, the sound, the ocean, the seagulls - all of it is very peaceful and serene.

Magical. There is something about the ocean that calls to me, soothes me. I have done a bit of sailing and I have to say that the time I've spent on a sailboat is the only time that I ever felt completely free of the every day, the contrived things of our creation. On the water, no motor, just's you and nature and everything else fades away. I wish I could take my psaltery out on the ocean now, drop the sails and play, hear the sound of the water and the psaltery, haunting, simple, beautiful.
Thanks for sharing those thoughts Greg, you took me back to a beautiful place.

I love the way this clip starts with a bright horizon, and ends with darkness approaching. This takes me right back to my most intensive period of practicing and composing. Out on a gorgeous island, I would do serious warm-ups, rehearse chops and all, during the day. But the beginning of sunset called for abandoning rules, going for the jam. Hard not to get carried away as the water reflects the sky going all electric. I felt like my BP was eating the light and colors, and putting out her own rainbows of sound. When the mood takes over, stuff you worked so hard to get a grasp of just starts happening on it's own.
There's something particularly nice about jamming with the ocean, too. The soothing water sounds kind of mask some of the squeeky harshness that is the curse of our instrument, leaving the sweeter sounds to fly free. It does kind of set you free, allow music to happen.

This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!
