"Streichpsalter" Translated into English as BOWED Psaltery, Streich in German specifically refers to dragging or drawing or scraping where as the English word Bowed also refers to Bowing before lords, idols, pressure, etc., a Bow tied in a ribbon as well as the Bow of a boat. Archet is French for “small arch” which does a better job of describing the bow itself. Hence "Psalterion a' Archet"- which is any member of that family of musical instruments usually plucked, strummed, or struck with mallets, but in this case “a’ Archet” , with a bow. In Spanish the Family group are called "Psalteros ad Arcos". The word Psaltery is a whole other kettle of fish I will not get into here.
