Our member, Jon Williams, made this comment and I think most, if not all, of us here feel this way. Jon, I hope you don't mind my quoting you.
" I am focusing on Bowed Psaltries because I can play them better, love the sound, the looks, the way it sounds like a violin in a cathedral. I have seen people shed a tear after playing Amazing Grace for the first time. I still love a well played mountain dulcimer but the bowed psaltry touches my heart. Also I can teach anyone able to breathe and sit up to play it."
Well said Jon. I dabble with other instruments but am always drawn back to the bowed psaltery. I love it's simplicity and other worldly sound. I feel a special emotional connection to the music through the bow hair connecting with the strings. I feel a higher level of expression utilizing a bow. The vibrations made through bowing technique touch me deeply and stay with me longer than plucking or strumming or the woodwinds. Of course, I was always addicted to the sustain pedal on the piano : )
Keep building those beautiful psalteries Jon. If you haven't checked out his psalteries take a look at his page!
