Amplified Psaltery with Cello Strings built by Rick Long
This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!

Excellent excuse. We'll let you off the hook, seeing as how it's for a worthy cause and all that. But you don't have to wait a whole year to visit us in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia. If ever you plan an excursion over our way, let us know. I've got a ten by thirty foot screen porch overlooking the Greenbrier River.
I couldn't agree more with Bonnie, the symphony is a WONDERFUL experience. This is the third one and I hope there will be many more. There will be some workshops as well.
Lois, I accidently deleted both of your status posts, goofy me, please post one again?!?!
That's what I get for working when I'm tired
It's the weekend of the 25th of March. Thursday through Sunday, no fee to participate but you buy your own meals and lodging. It's an amazing opportunity and loads of fun. Go to www.westmaninstruments.com to see more.
I never thought there was such a thing as too much rosin on a bow. It needs to build up on the strings, too. You don't clean the strings by any chance, do you? Tish always has good advice when I need it.
I'm still working on that. I love the low sounds but when I get to the high notes, they squeak or sound uneven. For any song I've learned, I have to practice quite a lot to get a smooth sound in the higher notes. My granddaughter picked up a bow for the first time in her life at age eleven and played the cello like she'd been taking lessons for a year. She's a natural. I'm not. But Tish Westman is a very patient and effective tutor. I've learned a lot from her. She and her husband make bowed psalteries at their West Virginia studio. I was in their 4-day workshop and performed in the bowed psaltery symphony at Tamarack last year. It was a great experience. I hope I can do it this year, too. Any chance you can take part?
Welcome!
Hi Lois! Welcome to Psaltery Strings. I hope you love your psaltery, I have always admired the Jerry Read Smith psalteries.
I also hope you will find the site helpful and fun. Please don't be timid about starting a conversation, asking questions or posting, that's what Psaltery Strings is for.
