My psaltery will be coming without a case or bag. I've done some searching on the web and have seen a whole range of styles and prices.
That prompted me to wonder what to look for in a gig (soft) bag? I am guessing that it needs to be large enough to fit the psaltery, but not too large, and have a place for the bow(s). But, what material? How much padding? What type of compartment for the bows and other accessories?
Thanks for any help you can offer this neophyte psalteress (or whatever we call ourselves)
Peace - and happy Earth Day!
I like the bag/case I got from Tish Westman (www.WestmanInstruments.com). It is canvaslike fabric, soft but very well made, constructed with an outside pouch shaped to hold the bows. Good zippers and handles. My professional musician siblings thought it was an excellent deal. You might check their website.
Thanks - I'll check it out.
The cases sold by (in this instance) Craggy Mountain Music are fairly standard.
A number of makers use these. I have my Phantasy in the #3 case. It has a very nice external pocket for tuner and wrench, and inside that is a slip to hold the bows.
BPs are pretty rugged critters as musical instruments go, but they still should be cased for transport. I always make sure nothing heavy can fall on it.
Thank you for the info. I'll check them out. My "heavy" objects are bound to be cats if I leap the case out and flat.
