My psaltery arrived on Friday.  Monday I had a chance to get it out, look at it, watch the dvd and work with it.  I have been picking out songs by ear, playing Amazing Grace, Simple Gifts, Danny Boy, Three blind mice, Mary had a little lamb and the such.  Lots of fun.  Im enjoying getting to know my instrument and bows. I need to work on tilting the psaltery back and forth to play sharps and flats.  Its hard for me to do, but Im hoping to get better at it.  Too much fun!

Regards,

Sue

Congrats Sue! I don't know how you managed to wait all weekend. I would have torn the box open with my teeth!! :)
Tim,
I must confess that I did open the box on Friday to look at it, but other matters kept me from paying more attention to it. Yes it was very difficult to wait!
Regards,
Sue
Ya.... me, too!! My arrived on Monday, and I've had great difficulty keeping my hands off it to do some things like eating, going to work, etc......!
I'm doin' just awesome! Love playing it! Have learned Ava Maria - had to go back to my dulcimer as I was forgetting songs on that!! Tough learning two new instruments, but I love them both!
Thanks for asking,
Trish
Hi there! I have not played in a while. I have a new puppy and that has been all time consuming. Havent had a puppy in 17 years, and either I have psych dog, or I had forgotten what was in store for me. Hope to get back to playing soon
Sue, all puppies are psycho.....I have been debating about whether to get a puppy or older dog. I lost my beloved Beau last year and haven't been ready to get another but feel it getting close.
What type of puppy?
Bear with it, it improves : )
Hi Donna, Im sorry to hear you lost yor dog Beau. I lost two of my dogs several months ago within two weeks of each other. Still have my greyhound, Fiona. I have a whippet puppy. Right now I want to send her back if I could get a refund. That is how frustrated I am. But hopefully Things will get better. I have a feeling the more frustrated I get, the worse the problems will get.
I feel your pain Sue...Beau was 4.5 yrs and died suddenly, unfortunately the vet ruled out everything but "evil doing" as the cause and that's as much as I can bear to say.
Whippets and Greyhounds are very cool! Hang in there, I've wanted refunds on every puppy I've raised...the puppy stage goes by so fast and you look back wistfully, however, while living that stage it does seem an eternity....
I'm curious how the pup will react to the BP, one of my cats comes running like I was the pied piper...she sometimes makes it impossible to play!
Sorry for you loss. I had a cat that loved the harmonica. Made it impossible to play. She would insist on getting right into my lap and rubbing her face on it. I think it sounded cat-like to her. That cat's mother loved the ukulele.
Ahhh, so music was in their family : )
Bindi makes it impossible as well sometimes. She comes running and starts rubbing up against the psaltery and me (or I, or whatever). Then if she successfully forces a spot on my lap while I play, she starts whacking at the bow as it moves back and forth...sigh...don't have the heart to move her either so I hold the psaltery up higher and sometimes end up playing at eye level! Ergonomically a disaster...yet I want to spend the quality time with my cat and my psaltery.
Our member Dari has a cat who oves the psaltery as well. She has a sweet little video on her facebook page (Dari, not her cat Sissy). I'll try to link it if I can, if not I'll see if she can post it here!
If you want to take a look at the video (very short and cute) try this link, it may work. If you try and it doesn't, let me know and I'll contact Dari if she doesn't read this thread.

you'll have to look down the left hand column until you come to videos, it's the only one...I don't think you have to join the group to see it, but I'm not sure.

This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!
