What is this Cove Lake deal all about?

This past weekend I hosted an invitational bowed psaltery gathering here in East Tennessee at Cove Lake State Park.  I had a couple of motives for doing this and the way it was done.

I have long thought I would like to see another bowed psaltery gathering, there too few right now.  I only know of The Lucas's Down Home Psaltery Festival and the Westman's Bowed Psaltery Symphony.  One of my motives was to invite several folks I know, who are as keen on the bowed psaltery as I am, to see if I felt comfortable hosting any kind of event like this.  I've never done anything even remotely like it.  My other motive is to use their experience and opinions of what we did this year to plan out a bowed psaltery gathering that will be open to all psaltery lovers next year.

This weekend was great fun and I believe everyone enjoyed themselves.  It gave me lots of ideas, but also made me realize there was a lot more involved in planning such an event than I had imagined.

This is the official announcement that there will be an annual Tennessee Bowed Psaltery Gathering beginning in 2012.

The exact dates and location are still to be determined, but will be revealed as soon as I have that confirmed.  All of that information will appear here on Psaltery Strings, as well as my web site at www.ringingstrings.com

The dulcimer folks have lots of festivals to choose from all over the country.  It's time for us bowed psaltery folks to have a venue to gather and share music, technique, learn, and just have a good time with folks we already have something in common with.

I'll add information when I have it.

This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!
