I'm in the planning stages of attempting to organize a small players group here in the local area. I currently play with one other psaltery player on a monthly basis which is fine but I would like to improve on that and invite beginners to join in. I have built up an inventory of instruments, some new and some gently used, that I would be willing share with new players to get them started.
In addition to the instruments, I plan on providing free instruction at a level which will hopefully get them excited to learn more. I'm curious if any of the other builders have had experience with a "lend-lease" approach to getting instruments into the hands of new players. Any suggestions in this area would be appreciated.
My first "student" will be visiting next week and I have set-aside 2 hours for our first meeting, I generally like to spend an hour with my customers but that limits me to mostly local players.
I've had good exposure in the local community during our "Art Walks"in the last four years. One of the PBS television stations also aired a piece on my hobby this spring so the knowledge of psaltery playing isn't completely unknown.
Any ideas or experiences you could pass along would be helpful...
