If I was still in school and the teacher asked me what I did on my summer vacation, I'd have to tell her about Violet.
Violet is a doll I made. She is all crochet and has her own bowed psaltery. As time allows I'm planning on making her some friends. Some of her friends will play bowed psaltery and some will play other folk instruments.
I hope you like her. She was very fun to create.

Thanks Joy! She is becomming my new traveling partner!
What a wonderful doll with a bowed psaltery! How clever.
Thank you for all that you share on this wonderful website.
You are so clever Donna. Violet is so cute. I can almost hear the music playing. Thanks for sharing her with us.
Gee, thanks Donna-that's very kind of you-just make sure you include cost info so I can reimburse you! You just never know-I've got an angel playing cymbals-one playing accordian-two playing drums- others playing: violin, panpipes, flute, harp, lute guitar, lyre-are some of the other instruments. Maybe one day there will be a pleasant surprise of the discovery of one playing a bowed psaltery!
If I ever see an Angel with a bowed psaltery Peggy, I'll buy it and send it to you! Chances are slim but you just never know!
Donna-She is adorable! I love the idea of creating other dolls with folk instruments too! I collect angels playing instruments-wish I could find one playing a bowed psaltery!
What a great doll!! Donna you are so talented, thanks for sharing. She is beautiful....
Thanks Philippa!
I'm sorry I missed Don Whoa at KMW!!! Was that this year?
Wow, I can't even imagine what kind of sound it would take to blow up a pig...even I do play THAT bad
Donna,
I took Don Whoa to Kentucky Music week.He is a North American Bear in Hawaiian attire. We had a day of tropical attire and he was well received...So your Violet is wonderful!
The father of a friend of mine was head medico for the army in Viet Nam and Ralph said the military was expecting soldiers would soon be deaf or nearly so. Tests were run in certain frequencys to use a wall of sound to disable enemies. Ralph said the tests could kill pigs and literally blow up their guts. Awful. Totally opposite of what the healers group works on.
Amplified Psaltery with Cello Strings built by Rick Long
This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!
