Return to the psaltery

Posted on February 7, 2014 at 9:46am 0 Comments

I'm so excited to return to my psaltery after a long absence. I have a beautiful Rick Long tenor that I am reacquainting myself with. I finally figured out how to start the DVD player and have reviewed the instructional DVD. Can't seem to get a clear sound out of my low G or A. I will keep working on it.

Love my Rick Long psaltery (tenor).  It is beautiful & the tone is everything I could have wanted.  I did get two bows and the plate and I'm glad because the tenor is heavy for me and my arms aren't the longest.  Haven't tried double bowing yet, but bought the bows so I'd have  them when ready.  I can mount my psaltery on one of my husband's unused camera tripods (a tallish one that is adjustable) & I can sit when I play.  Works great.  Did not have a pickup mounted in it.  By the way, you couldn't find a nicer man to deal with than Rick Long.  He is so helpful and really gives good service.  My psaltery made it all the way from Tenn. to Calif.without a hitch.  Hope this helps.

Hi, Sue!

Yes, I just received my Rick Long psaltery recently. Haven't had much chance to try it out. What would you like to know? I spent a lot of time researching many psalteries & psaltery makers before choosing this one, by the way, & I think it was a good choice. Rick is a super guy & we talked quite a while by phone & if I have a question he always returns my e-mails promptly.

This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!
