Robert Myers commented on Rick Long's blog post Theoretical or Empirical?
"I have a used Dave Lucas Psaltery with two missing stings. I am going to use wound strings to replace them just to see how it sounds (if it works). I play guitar and enjoy the many voices of my many (wife says too many) guitar woods and…"

Robert Myers replied to Donna Malus's discussion Tom Fellenbaum Psalteries
"Hello Donna, I am new to the Psaltery after hand injury has kept me from guitar. I bought a 1986 Fellenbaum at a thrift shop in Asheville, NC. a few weeks ago. The Psaltery was in the original box it was sold in. I have contacted him as I only live…"

Profile Information

Do you own a bowed psaltery?
yes
How did you discover the bowed psaltery?
Hand surgery stopped made guitar playing painful
Who built your bowed psaltery?
1. Tom Fellenbaum a 1976 build

2 Dave Lucas a 1999 build which I am going to
attempt restringing with gauges:
.018, .020 and .022 per guidance
from Dave Lucas and this blog.
How long have you played the bowed psaltery?
Two weeks or so.
Do you perform with the bowed psaltery?
No. But I do aspire to do so.
Do you build bowed psalteries for sale?
No. But plan to build.
Do you teach the bowed psaltery?
No. I am afraid that would not be good for any student.
How did you find out about our Psaltery Strings network?
Searching on line about how others have restrung Psalterys.

1-I do not read music. Makes it more of a challenge to be learning Psaltery.

I play guitar, harmonica and some Mandolin. I play by ear which means I have to hear it in my head or hear someone else play a song.

I do, however, read tabs. Yes I am one of those folks When leaning a new song I have to tab it as I go along. Long and tedious journey.

Old dog but still learning.

This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!

Please sign up on the bowed psaltery players list

Tish's list is a valuable resource when searching for other players. http://www.westmaninstruments.com/Bowed_Psaltery_List.html

If you are already on Tish's list, why don't you stop in and update your info? While your there take a look to see if there are new players in your area. Who knows, you might get together and make a recording.
