I just received a pair of paulownia bows from Rick Long and they are wonderful! They feel like an extension of my hand. Less "weight" than average bows so my guess they will be perfect for children…Continue

Some of us have attended Kentucky Music Week and enjoyed bowed psaltery lessons. So you might wish to know Nancy Barker's sister Gloria J. Lewis died a few days ago. "Miss Gloria" was a well known pianist in Louisville, KY and beyond. If you know Nancy you surely respect her including instruments beyond the dulcimer so that many of us have a gathering place to learn and jam and make new musical buddies. Those Johnson girls have helped a lot us grow.

I am as happy as a hog in swill -- guess that doesn't sound too inviting but my pleasure is really high! I got a new D tenor from Rick to use with local dulcimer group. Have worked with some familiar tunes using the D as a drone and found that was fun. But put on some cds this morning and used both baritone and D to play along in a very newbie fashion. Used root chords and IV and V.
It probably isn't moral for a great grandmother to have this degree of enjoyment …

Rick Long sent a lovely baritone here the other day. Redwood and walnut. It is difficult to leave the house since I want (and need) to practice all the time.
I thought the mountain dulcimer group was helpful and am delighted to find the same generous spirit here.

This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!

Each day is a gift of love and light. I hope and pray the coming days of treatment will not be too hard on you, and will rid you of the cancer. I am very glad you are able to find some comfort in the music you find here. Many members also have youtube channels you could search out for more lovely music. I am convinced that love, laughter, and sweet music will go a long way in adding your treatment. All the best to you, Dear One.
Kristi-san,
I am shocked to know that you got a diagnosis of lung cancer. I hope you will go through the treatment with as little suffering as possible and that you will get well very soon. Take care. Nozomi.
Thank you very much for your comment on our Turkey in the Straw video. Nozomi
Hi Kristi,
No I don't play any instruments which is why the bowed Psaltery appealed to me. I am really enjoying practicing and trying to remember how to read music which I learned some 30 or something years ago haha! I look forward to learning more from this site!
Elaine
