Recording psalteries

I recorded my CD "Mazja" in a semi-pro studio back in the mid-1990s. While some people now will use computer-based home equipment,  at that time the just the mic that I used (the engineer supplied a…Continue

The threads on bp in education and, especially, on bp for young children, both border this topic. I've just scratched the surface looking into it, and thought I might wait until I had more to offer…Continue

Do you own a bowed psaltery?
yes
Who built your bowed psaltery?
Omega, Unicorn
California boy, living just outside of Tokyo, where there are Japanese players and builders of bowed psalteries.
I'm a performer by trade, doing a solo show that draws on folk art traditions, featuring collaborations between instruments and puppets. The psaltery puppet is my main thing.
I'll post some stuff here, but most of the pics, vids, psaltery album info, and other details are HERE

Hey Grego, I'm getting close to setting something up with reverbnation. It won't be perfect and may require mmembers to send their music to me to post, but it sure beats paying another $200 per year to get the Ning music player.

Hi Greg!  We lost the ability to use a music player add on when they went to pay sites. I'm going to put something up where we can at least accumulate mp3 files (or other types) so that we can share recordings. There are some recording files uploaded here and there, but I'll formalize something.

Hope all is well with you!  I've been particularly busy getting reading for the symphony in April. So far 34 people are signed up to participate.

Oooo, I just love how that happens, one link leads to another and finally a discovery!! That's what makes the internet so incredible and opens the world to the "discerning" user : )

Wow Greg, how did you catch that??? It is very neat to see that Waynie on stage with Sting! Unfortunately they have disabled the embed code, I run into that occasionaly, some people are funny that way. I'm about to head for bed, but tomorrow I'll see if I can post the link at least. I also want to watch it again and some of the others, nice music too.
Hope all is well with you Greg!

Hi Greg,
I'm a lot older (63) but I feel great. My wife and I are now retired so I have a lot more time to spend in my shop. I tried to "ramp up" Omega Strings by rewriting the website, advertising, etc. but as soon as I starting "trying" to get more business I got less than when I wasn't trying. I don't know, maybe it's the economy. Anyway, I still build them we will just have to wait and see.

Hi Greg
I have to look at that, the same thing happened with Dave, I thought all the music would end up in the same place. If I can't figure it out, I'll have to write to the ning help(less) desk....
hope all is well with you and Mazja : ) she's such a pretty lady (I hope she's a she)

I'm so glad you like it Greg, Mazja is beautiful, I love watching that video of her playing (I know she's real and you are the puppet : )
No, not in graphics, just a computer nut, with an artistic side but unable to draw a straight line. What a fantastic compliment that was.
I'm very excited right now. Tish Westman has set a date for the First Annual Psaltery Orchestra Weekend. It will be in April. Any chance you'll be visiting the states ? : P
I already started the "logo" for the event and I'll post it soon. What time is it in Japan right now?

Hi Grego!
I did a graphic using the lovely Mazja, I hope you won't object. I have the image on t=shirts etc on Cafe Press, here's a link. Please, if you have any objections, let me know and I'll remove her!

Please sign up on the bowed psaltery players list

Tish's list is a valuable resource when searching for other players. http://www.westmaninstruments.com/Bowed_Psaltery_List.html

If you are already on Tish's list, why don't you stop in and update your info? While your there take a look to see if there are new players in your area. Who knows, you might get together and make a recording.
