Squeaking strings

Started this discussion. Last reply by Tish Westman Dec 11, 2010. 8 Replies

What causes strings to squeak when I try to play them? I've got one that is especially bad, and almost impossible to get a good tone from it if the humidity is high.Continue

Sorry that week-end won't work - but, so be it!! I'll look forward to a possible next time when I'm down on the Cape!
Take care,

Hi Fran! It's great to see you added a picture. Are you planning on attending the symphony again next year?

I'm just seeing that you've played with the Falmouth Fiddlers. Does Debra (can't remember her last name, but her husband is Dick and he plays the hammered dulcimer) still play with that group. I used to clog with Debra and a couple other gals.

Where in Falmouth do you live? My husband and I will be visiting my brother who lives in North Falmouth. We will be coming down on Friday, Sept. 24th and leaving on Sunday. I hope you might have some time over the week-end that we could get together!

Hi Fran - yes, I will be bringing my psaltery. It would be great to meet up. Perhaps we could share what songs we know, so that we could find some mutual songs to play together. I would love that! I have videos posted both here and on youtube of the songs I've learned so far. For youtube, search for thoeckel and you'll see my videos.
Take care,

Hi Fran - was just checking out the member's list and see you are from Falmouth, MA - this is where I grew up!! I now live in Maine, but still have family and friends in Falmouth, where I've spent a good part of my life! Nice to see someone from my hometown. Actually I'm going down to the Cape in Sept. Would be a hoot to meet up! How long have you been playing?

Hi Fran and welcome! I just have to get involved in this symphony thing. It sounds great! I have two Long psalteries and love them. Hope you'll post about yours in the forum.

This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!
