I want to add harmony and learn facility with two bows on my baritone psaltery. Does anyone recommend a method? I don't want to reinvent the wheel!
I am also learning how to use two bows. I practice in 30 minute sessions. I will start up with warm up exercises. one hand for the harmony -my left and right hand for the melody. I will start with just rhythmic movements the harmony bow using a whole note and the melody playing different patterns, qtr notes, eight notes and whole notes and then I switch over to a simple song (I am practicing on Shenandoah) and just practice the melody part part and then start bringing in the left hand (harmony). after a while, you will start seeing yourself playing both parts with ease and grace. I believe for me the muscle memory takes over and I can just play. I hope this is helpful.
Thanks, that sounds like advice I can follow. Muscle memory--I know the concept, was just today trying to recall the term. Yes, I will use your pattern as I practice with discipline.
Sue this is just a guideline I use. you may find another way that works for you as you go through your practices. let us know. the more tips the better for us budding Psaltery musicians.
I would like to learn more about the scales and techniques you use. I am a visual person and would like to have some exercises to improve my dexterity with using 2 bows.
I think Evelyn's method sounds great, though I haven't been able to get to the place of grace ease myself! I also am enjoying the videos by Karen Palmer who uses two bows to good effect.
