I have invited a lovely, musically inclined twenty-something to come over and meet my bowed psalteries on Thursday. I have an overt agenda: I want someone to play with! I think she might be just the person. I'd like to introduce her to some basics and send her home eager to play easy tunes by ear for a week. I also want to whet her appetite with some sheet music to start learning by heart. My hope is that we can play something together at church by Christmastime. Ideally, I would like to be perfectly proficient, myself, before I tried to teach, but that's not going to happen.
Still, I've made decent progress since last August. For example, it's suddenly easier to read the music, and play at the same time. Also, I've gotten used to only the dots and no note names, and I don't have to always look at my instrument as I play. Does this project have a chance of success? or are my expectations unrealistic for a talented adult?

Hi Sue!
In my group in Japan, there are some members who play other musical instruments (mostly piano) quite proficiently, And I know many semi-professional musicians and musical therapists who got interested in BP.
I think it's quite possible that she starts playing the Bowed Psaltey if you show her your love and enthusiasm for Bowed Psaltery. Good Luck! Nozomi
We met yesterday, sharing lots of smiles. We picked out Amazing Grace by ear. She knows a little reading and a little theory, and a little keyboard. She is an eager student. We looked at Rick Long's DVD introductory lesson, then I showed her one of the videos of you playing, Nozomi. She loved it!
I found my melody and harmony from Ode to Joy (thanks Tish and Greg!). As she was familiar with this tune, we were playing together by the lesson's end. What fun! Same time next week!
Wow! That's GREAT! I'm really glad to read your reply! Nozomi
I sent my 25 year old daughter home with my soprano psaltery, and she is having a great time picking out tunes that she loves. She picked it up almost immediately, and I'm sure your friend will as well. You two will have a great time together! Janet

This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!
