I help lead a bowed psaltery group in the southeastern section of Connecticut.  Our psaltery group as a whole is called the Bowed Psaltery Folksters.

What types of jobs to you get and how often?  How often does your group practice?

We were just in a concert in West Hartford with the Dulcimer Folk Association.  That is the highlight of our year.

We MAY be asked to participate in a Renaissance wedding in October.  I think that would be really neat.  For a few years, we volunteered ourselves as a raffle prize for a local Woman & Children's fundraiser.  People would bid on us, and whoever won us, we would then go play at their function, be it a tea, or background dinner music, etc.

Right now we are in a summer hiatus.  We will meet again in August, and if we do that wedding, we will begin focusing on that.

As you can imagine, there is a lot of history associated with this area.  We are in Norwich, CT, and there is much Revolutionary War history, and historical societies, and events that take place.  I/we have been background music as people stroll through the old, historical homes.    That's one of my favorite venues.

I am located in Lisbon, CT and grew up in Norwich. I bought a Psaltery last summer after hearing one in church and I love the beautiful almost haunting sound.  I’m assuming you play at the reenactment camps on the green in Norwichtown?  Please post when you plan to perform next, I’d love to stop by.

Yes...I used to play at the Norwichtown Green.   What church, may I ask, did you hear one played?  That would be great!  We would love to have you come to our psaltery picnic in Baltic (near the Sayles Elementary School) on August 20th.  You can meet the other psaltery people from our area!  Email me please, and I will give you further info. psalterymelodye@sbcglobal.net

Thanks, I would love to come to the psaltery picnic. I'll email you this week. -Lisa

I look forward to it.

Did you play the wedding march with the BP and if so would you share the sheet music for that. My daughter is getting married and I would love to record that for when we walk down the aisle

I have played for weddings, but not the Wedding March. I'm not sure where you might find a good arrangement for that.  Best wishes.

This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!

Tish's list is a valuable resource when searching for other players. http://www.westmaninstruments.com/Bowed_Psaltery_List.html

If you are already on Tish's list, why don't you stop in and update your info? While your there take a look to see if there are new players in your area. Who knows, you might get together and make a recording.
