I am seeking instructions to build or perhaps a diagram of a stand that I can put my Baritone Psaltery in.  It was built with no support insert so it is not able to have a screw mechanism in the back.

I am not aware of anyone who is providing instructions or diagrams of their bowed psaltery holders. If you have questions you might be able to get some answers or advice from the members who build stands. I know that Rick Long of Ringing Strings builds them and so does Terry Kirby of Spring Creek Psalteries. Both are members here and you should be able to contact them. You could also contract them through their regular web sites.

Thank you, I will keep checking the different sourses. I do have my own wood shop, was hoping to build my own with some ideas from others..

I'm very satisfied with the platform from JamesJonesInstruments

http://www.jamesjonesinstruments.com/bowedpsaltery/bpaccessories.html

It connects via the screw on the "quick release plate" on my Zeiko tripod http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001F8S576?psc=1&redirect=true..., so no need to have a screw into the back of your psaltery. The platform has edges so that the instrument stays put. This set up is working well for me.

Thanks for the help.  This platform looks  like I was going to make but after talking to the builder of my instrument, he said not to incase like a coffin, because you would loose some of the fine sound that it puts out.  Have you noticed anything like that?

the back does not lie directly on the platform, as its got little dots of something to hold it off. At first, I fretted that tone was lost, and that there was a "buzz". But now I screw everything that can be screwed tight, tight. And the tone seems to improve the more I play it.

Thanks, Sue, I think I have some good ideas to try now. Thanks to all who answered my question.
Hey Joyce why couldn't U just get the proper insert at a hardware store and put it in the back of ur bp.I've never put one in a bp.but I've put them in about everything else.Ask some of the builders about this. That would help with buying a stand.I may try this with mine since I dont have an insert either

Thanks for your interest..As I stated earlier, my Baritone BP is very heavy, and there is no extra support in the middle of it back, so any kind of screw in bracket won't work. I think I am going to try and build a frame like holder, with most of it open to let the sound viberate from it. Thanks again for the ideas...

Oh Ok I understand now.A frame which U could router the inside and sit Ur BP in with a crosspiece to mount an insert would work. The bottom would be open so no problem with tone loss. The crosspiece wouldn't touch the bottom so insert wouldn't damage instrument.U could then mount to a tripod.I also have a baritone Psaltery by roosebeck. So I know what U mean by heavy.lol
Thanks, I will try that idea. If I don't use my B,BP soon, I was thinking of selling it. I play my soprano BP more, with my my. Dulcimer club.

Joyce, did you ever find a good stand for your baritone, or did you end up selling it?
