Hello.  I'm sorry I haven't visited this site as often as I used to visit.  It seems I'm busier now that I retired than I was before I retired and I've slowed down on keeping up with all of the sites where I used to participate.

I received the email below and I'm wondering if anyone else received a similar email.  It might be from Melanie Williams but the reply to address shows BenjaminDuke.  The nature of the message seems to indicate something besides an interest in bowed psalteries.

I got an email with the same message that you did, only from a different name.  I’m new to this site and thought, mistakenly, that it was a question from someone in admin.  It wasn’t.  I learned this by writing to the email address in the message.  It was a scam out of a foreign country.  Someone claiming to work at a bank where is an account for a deceased American that they claimed had my same last name.  They claimed they could put me down as the deceased person’s only living relative and if I helped with this “legal” fraud, we could split the $5.5000,000…. They claimed that since they aren’t greedy, they would only want 1/2 of the money.

the person who sent the email had just joined here that same day.  I have looked for a way to contact an administrator, but I can’t see any information about an administrator for this website.

Yes, I too received this message from Melanie Williams.  She sent me two messages, both of which appeared to be bogus.  I also received another bogus-sounding email last week through this site, from a person with a man’s name.  i have told both of them to bugger off.  Even though I’m 71 years old, I get creepy solicitations on Facebook regularly from desperate old trolls, and it’s annoying.

Is there something the group leaders can do to prevent people from accessing our personal email addresses?

I think with the number of telephone calls I receive each day that are spam, I think the internet provides a wonderful place for ne'er do wells to try to encourage us into their scam (I get a lot of spam on the internet, too).  I don't see a fix any time soon for either the telephone or our favorite websites.  We will need to be vigilant and careful.
