I live near Atlanta (and have since 1984), but Johnson City, Texas, remains my "home." I grew up on a ranch a few miles south of there, and we still have it. So every time I get a chance, I head that way. Feel free to let me know if you guys get a "group" together in the Austin area. I might be able to drop in sometime when I'm in the area.

well, it's been a couple of years, and even though i've actually given a psaltery to a friend, i haven't managed to get together my group.  :(

HOWEVER i just found the first person i've ever met in real life who also plays the bowed psaltery!  yay!  she might be on this forum (nora? it's me, julie!), and i haven't actually played with her yet, but make that two austin area psalterettes.  practically an orchestra!

have you gotten together , yet? I love it--"practically an orchestra!"

I very occasionally now make the trip back from Atlanta to Johnson City. Didn't bring the psaltery last time but could if anyone wants to get together. I'm playing a Rick Long baritone, FYI....

sigh. no psaltery gathering as of yet.  although i do get it out and play every now and then, this morning for "Music in the Morning" at my son's elementary school.  LOL the number of "what IS THAT?"s that i get is always hilarious.  for next time i think i need to just make a sign so i don't have to interrupt my playing so often!

Amplified Psaltery with Cello Strings built by Rick Long

This video is a personal favorite because it shows a unique type of bowed psaltery with a gorgeous sound. When I heard it I broke out in goose bumps!

Tish's list is a valuable resource when searching for other players.

If you are already on Tish's list, why don't you stop in and update your info? While your there take a look to see if there are new players in your area. Who knows, you might get together and make a recording.
